About Double Major Programs

The Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies offers double major programs with the Department of Western Languages and Literatures and the Department of Linguistics.

The deadline for double major applications is announced in the Boğaziçi University Academic Calendar.

Please note:

• You can apply for a place on the double major program at the beginning of your third, fourth, or fifth semester.
• The minimum GPA requirement for double major programs is 3.00, however some departments may require a higher GPA and have quota restrictions.
• To be eligible to apply for a place on a double major program, you must have passed all your courses successfully. If you have an F on your transcript, you will therefore need to repeat that course and obtain a passing grade before applying.
• Applications are made to both departments simultaneously.
• Individual departments may have additional requirements (demand a statement of purpose, hold interviews etc.). Please refer to the website of the host department for further details.

To complete your application:

Please fill out the application form (ÇAP Başvuru Formu) and submit it to both departments for approval.

If you are accepted to a double major program, you will need to register as a double major student at the Registrar’s Office (Kayıt İşleri) by submitting the declaration form (ÇAP Kayıt Beyan Formu) that can be found on this page, under the heading Çift Anadal Programına Yeni Kabul Edilen Öğrencilerin Kayıtları.

After you are accepted:

The double major program must be completed within 10 semesters (exclusive of one semester spent as an Erasmus student). Summer school semesters are not counted towards the maximum duration.

You will be assigned an academic advisor from each department. The double major advisor for the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies is Dr. Şule Demirkol Ertürk (sule.demirkol@boun.edu.tr).

During the double major program you are expected to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above, although your cumulative GPA can fall to 2.90 for one semester only. Cumulative GPA at graduation must be 3.00 or above.

The minimum requirements to apply for a double major program with the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies are as follows:

a) Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above

b) One-page Statement of Purpose

c) Interview

d) A recent transcript

To complete your application please fill out the application form (ÇAP Başvuru Formu) and submit it to both departments for approval.

Interview dates will be announced on our website at the end of the application period.

Unless otherwise announced, our department accepts applications once a year at the beginning of the Fall semester. Please check the department’s website for announcements, and the Boğaziçi University Academic Calendar for the application deadline.
