Application

 

Applications should be made via Boğaziçi University’s postgraduate application system during the general postgraduate application period (please see the academic calendar). Quotas and conditions of acceptance will be announced during the application periods. This information can be reached via the Boğaziçi University website (http://adaylar.boun.edu.tr/en-EN/Home). Conditions for Application and Documents Required:

  1. Applications are to be made using this website. A guide to the electronic application system can be found here

  2. Two letters of recommendation. [Your referees will be contacted automatically to request a letter of recommendation. Their names, surnames and email addresses should be entered into the system]

  3. A certified photocopy of your undergraduate diploma or a letter certifying that you have graduated. [To be scanned and uploaded to the system]

  4. Official transcript of your undergraduate studies. [To be scanned and uploaded to the system]

  5. Bank receipt showing payment of the application fee. [If payment is made by SWIFT, the receipt should be scanned and uploaded to the system}

  6. Evidence of proficiency in English (a minimum score of 550 + TWE 4.5 on the paper-based TOEFL; a minimum score of 213 + TWE 4.5 on the computer-based TOEFL; or a minimum score of 79 + TWE 22 on the internet-based TOEFL; or an overall score of 6.5 in ELTS).  Applicants who have not taken these tests will be required to take Boğaziçi University’s English Proficiency Test (BUEPT) administered by the School of Foreign Languages (YADYOK). The minimum score required in the BUEPT is 60. Those who have sat the TOEFL exam and received the acceptable minimum general score but have failed in the written section may also apply to take YADYOK Test of Written English (TWE) by presenting their TOEFL score report at the YADYOK Student Office in advance of the BUEPT. Those who receive a passing grade in the YADYOK TWE are considered proficient in English. The scores of these exams are valid for two years. Grade certificates for TOEFL or ELTS should be authorized by YADYOK.   7. The graduation grade point average you attained in your undergraduate studies should be at least 2.25 out of 4, or at least 70 out of 100. [This information should be entered in the system]

  8. Candidates must have a high level of competence in at least three languages: Turkish, English and at least one of the other languages offered within the program. Candidates must offer a minimum language combination of A-B-C, the A language being the mother-tongue or strongest language of an interpreter, the B language the interpreter’s active foreign language, and the C language the interpreter’s passive foreign language. An interpreter must be able to interpret from the C language into the A language, but will not interpret from the A or B language into the C language. Any documentation applicants possess showing his/her language level should be submitted along with the application.

  9. Applicants must write a “Statement of Purpose” explaining why they wish to take an MA in the field of conference interpreting. The statement of purpose must also include information on how the applicant’s language combination meets the conditions outlined above in point 8. [To be uploaded to the system]

  10. In order to be accepted to the program, applicants must also pass written and oral entrance examinations. In preparation for the entrance examinations, applicants are advised to keep abreast of current affairs worldwide and of topical events in the European Union and Turkey.  For further details on the entrance examinations please click here.   11. The MA program in Conference Interpreting is, by its nature, a program that requires students to come to classes at times that may well change, as well as to attend conferences and other related events. It is of utmost importance that applicants be able to fit in with the variable class schedule.
